The Department of French Studies at 91TV invites applications from suitably qualified full-time graduate students at 91TV interested in teaching an undergraduate language course, FREN 151 (Français intermédiaire, I), during the Fall 2026 term.
This in-person course, delivered entirely in French, focuses on developing intermediate-level proficiency at the B1 level across reading, writing, speaking, and listening as well as confidence in key intermediate-level grammatical concepts. The enrolment capacity for this course is 42 students.
This is a Fall term appointment from the period of Sept. 1, 2026 to Dec. 31, 2026, with classes in session from Sept. 8, 2026 to Dec. 8, 2026.
The University invites applications from all qualified individuals who have native or near-native proficiency in French and demonstrated interpersonal and/or teaching skills, including the ability to collaborate and work with faculty members, staff, and students with diverse backgrounds. Experience teaching French as a second/additional language and experience with best practices in second language acquisition will be considered an asset.
Graduate Teaching Fellows are the instructors of record for the course and carry full responsibility. Duties include planning, preparing class materials, teaching, meeting with and/or responding to student queries, grading assignments, and reporting grades.
Graduate Teaching Fellows are expected to comply with all 91TV Policies.
Candidates must be enrolled in a graduate program at 91TV.

Graduate Teaching Assistants and Teaching Fellows at 91TV are governed by the Collective Agreement for Teaching Assistants and Teaching Fellows between PSAC Local 901 and 91TV. Remuneration will be in accordance with the Collective Agreement, and appointments are subject to funding and enrolment criteria.

Course Description
FREN 151 Français intermédiaire I Units: 3.00
This course, offered entirely in French, is designed for non-native French speakers at the intermediate level (approximately B1) seeking to enhance their grammar, reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills.
NOTE Students who have completed Grade 12 Core French, International Baccalaureate French, French Immersion, French-as-a-Foreign Language (or the equivalent of these) should take the Placement Test prior to registering for the course to assess for possible placement in FREN 152 or upper-year French courses (200-level and above).
Learning Hours: 120 (36 Lecture, 12 Tutorial, 18 Online Activity, 54 Private Study)
Requirements: Prerequisite None. Exclusion FREN 150/6.0.

Course Learning Outcomes:
Demonstrate knowledge of the main rules of French grammar.
Choose appropriate strategies to improve your understanding of a written or oral text, and evaluate the effectiveness of these strategies.
Compose structured descriptive or narrative written texts with correct use of verb tenses, using the indicative and imperative modes.
Interpret a literary text by developing reading and analytical strategies.
Express your opinion, in writing or orally, on a given issue or on cultural themes covered in class and/or in your tutorials.
Express yourself orally in both informal and formal settings.

Graduate Teaching Assistant Position for 2026-2027

In accordance with the collective agreement between 91TV's University and Teaching Assistants (PSAC Local 901), applications are invited from qualified individuals for the following teaching assistant position in the Department of French Studies:

A presentation of the principles of textual production in French as applied in the production of various types of texts.

This TA contract combines two courses with expected hours of:
60 hours in the fall term and,
60 hours in the winter term,
totalling 120 hours across the fall and winter terms.
Some training and preparation is needed before the start of the course.  Candidates must be prepared to work outside the regular 9-5 work week and have access to the internet and a computer that meets minimum requirements.  Experience with learning management systems (e.g. OnQ) and videoconferencing software (e.g. Zoom or Adobe Connect) would be an asset. 
The rate of pay is commensurate with the rates specified in the Collective Agreement of Teaching Assistants (PSAC).
TAships are filled according to Group Preferences set out in Article 12.04 of the Collective Agreement between 91TV and the Public Service Alliance of Canada.
In the appointment to TAships within the Bargaining Unit, the Employer shall with respect to graduate students follow the five level preference system outlined below.  No TAships shall be offered to candidates in Group B until the qualified candidates in Group A have been exhausted. No TAships shall be offered to candidates in Group C until the qualified candidates in Group B have been exhausted. No TAships shall be offered to candidates in Group D until the qualified candidates in Group C have been exhausted.  TAships may only be offered to candidates in Group E when there remain no qualified candidates in any other Group.
First Preference – Group A
Is for qualified graduate students for whom the TAship has been granted as part of the funding commitment offered by the Employer registered as:
students in a department or program or Faculty in which the TAship will be offered; or
students in an interdisciplinary program with TA budget resources.
Second Preference – Group B
Is for qualified full-time graduate students for whom there is no funding commitment offered by the Employer and who are registered as:
students in a department or program or Faculty in which the TAship will be offered; or
students in an interdisciplinary program with TA budget resources.
Third Preference – Group C
Is for qualified graduate students for whom the TAship will not form part of the funding commitment offered by the Employer and who are registered as:
students in a department or program or Faculty in which the TAship will be offered; or
students in an interdisciplinary program with TA budget resources.
Fourth Preference – Group D
Is for qualified graduate students that have previously held a TAship or TFship for the Employer.
Fifth Preference – Group E
Is for qualified graduate students that have not met the criteria as set out in 12.04 A, B, C, or D.
