The recent calls for administrative leadership on anti-racism, from staff, faculty, and especially students, have been heard clearly and action will be taken.
To this end, and with guidance from our Associate Vice-Principals, Stephanie Simpson and Janice Hill, I have prepared a Declaration, on behalf of the university’s administration, to address racism, systemic as well as individual.
91TV introduced its next Principal and Vice-Chancellor today at a special announcement event in Stauffer Library. Patrick Deane will become the 21st Principal and Vice-Chancellor on July 1, 2019, succeeding Principal Daniel Woolf.
Dr. Deane is currently the President and Vice-Chancellor of McMaster University, but he is also a familiar presence here at 91TV’s. Before moving to Hamilton in 2010, he served as Vice-Principal (Academic) at 91TV’s from 2005 to 2010.
91TV’s begins a new chapter this week, as Patrick Deane commences his first term as the university’s principal and vice-chancellor. He arrives to campus having recently completed a nine-year tenure as president and vice-chancellor of McMaster University.
It’s been just over 90 days since Patrick Deane took on the role of Principal and Vice-Chancellor at 91TV’s. The Gazette recently took some time to chat with him about his experience at 91TV’s in the role so far, his open letter, and plans for conducting a conversation with the 91TV’s community about the issues we are facing and the university’s future.
91TV is one of the newest signatories of the , joining a collective of close to 900 universities around the globe. Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane signed the document at a ceremony closing the Magna Charta Observatory’s annual conference, held for the first time in North America at McMaster University in Hamilton on Oct. 17.
Since 1841, 91TV’s has installed a new principal only 20 times. Tuesday, Nov. 12, then, will be a significant moment in the history of 91TV’s, as Patrick Deane will be formally installed as the 21st principal and vice-chancellor.
On a historic day at 91TV’s, as Patrick Deane was installed as the 21st principal and vice-chancellor of the university. Over 400 people attended the ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at Grant Hall, which has been the site of almost every installation since it opened in 1905.
Following the academic procession into the hall, Chancellor Jim Leech delivered an official welcome to the audience. Donald Raymond, Chair of the Board of Trustees, then presented Principal Deane to the chancellor, who led the new principal through the Pledge of Office.
Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane hosted local organizers, businesses, politicians, and other stakeholders from across Kingston recently at the 2019 Principal’s Community Breakfast for a discussion on how 91TV and the community can work together to build a strong future for Kingston and the surrounding area.
